It is important to understand the significance of proper Web site promotion. When a merchant is setting up a new business he or she puts out as tempting an image as possible. Colorful window displays are put out, signs are made, isle displays are done just so. If the storefront is located in the deep woods on some dusty road with no name, what are the chances of doing a booming business?
	The situation is the same when a tantalizing Web site is created and never properly promoted. When a user goes to the Internet to look for merchandise or information, they will go to a search engine and type in a phrase to get a listing of Web sites that match what they're looking for. For example, let's say you want information on buying a car. You could go to www.infoseek.com and type in "buying a car". Your search would bring back almost 12,000 Web pages. The first 10 sites would be listed. To see the next ten you would click on "Next 10", and so on. If you're selling cars and your site is number 100 or 1000 or worse, you probably will never get noticed.
